Default rear fender trimming question

Alright, I've done a ton of searching and still have yet to find an answer to my trimming question. I don't know if it's just from me over looking it or what, but I can't seem to find an answer. So, I have a 99 XJ and I want to put on TJ flares. Read a bunch of posts and threads on putting them on, but my question is this - How can you trim 2" ont eh rear without going past the pinch welds? The pinch welds on my rear fenders are BELOW the holes for the factory flare mounts. I don't want to trim so much that I go past the pinch welds, but that only allows me to trim about .5". Is there any other way around this, or am i just gonna have to suck it up and weld in some sheet metal? Thanks in advance for any input you have on this.

When do the fender trimming on, you do the cut and fold. (vertical slits) those slits are then around the pinch seam and can be folded up. when you fold them up you are now keeping the 2 sheetmetal panels together and you get 2" or so clearance

U cut up In between them. Then hammer over the pieces that are welded. Then paint so it dosnt rust. I also put silicone over it so ice dosnt pack in. Its hard to explain. Were to cut but I hope u get it.

Perfect picture to show you. Cut off the extra lip (sawzall, angle grinder, whatever). Then I used a soapstone, pulled off my tire, got up where I could see inside the fender well and marked my pinch welds on the outside. Then just cut up every 1-2" like shown above, being careful not to cut where you marked for the pinch welds, then hammer it on under.

I saw this thread earlier and I just couldn't tell how he was able to avoid the pinch welds.

96 - exactly what I needed to see and read. THANK YOU!

One last question, when i fold the "tabs", should I tack weld them in place or not worry about it?
