Default Rear bumper/tire carrier help

Ok so Im trying to design my new tire carrier that Im going to start this month, but I can quite deside on how to build the carrier. I want to build something totaly custom that hasent really been built yet for the XJ. I was thinking something like the Poison spyder customs TJ rear stinger -

But the think that I cant quite deside, is because the stinger will have to be angled out, so the tire will be angled out, instead of in, to kinda flow with the angle of the rear hatch. So I wouldent be able to do a stinger because of the angle. I wanted to attach it onto the bumper to. So I think that idea is out

So now Im thinking of trying to build on like offroad evo, like this

Something pretty much like this. Mounting to my side pannels and having the swing away just like this. What do you guys think? How would that look?

The rear bumper will be close to like what c-roks is. A nice slim bumper

Then mounting the carrier off the sids. What do you guys think??

I would worry about the sides holding the load... but with proper bracing it could work.

I would prob joints just like in the pic, with some heafty mounts welded onto my quarter guards. One even with the lighs, and then one on the upperpart of the pannel just below the window. I think the load would be ok. Ill have to brace the inside where the bolts mount to so they dont just get ripped out of the sheet metal

how about something like this
cannt remember who jeep it is but i liked the concept and was thinking about doing something simular

its a swing out and down carrier

that way you can swing it out to allow easy access to the hatch but swing down to allow easy removal of the tire

I am in the process of designing the same style bumper but not sure if I'm going to flip down off the hatch or Bob the back and make like a Baja style flip down, keep us informed on how it goes

Dont know if you have a bender or not, but this site has a pre-bent stinger tire carrier........http://jeeptubes.com/shop

Its only $150 for the kit.

I have looked thru your fab work. I dont think you will have much trouble designing off of that! You do some good work.

Thats a great kit! It would cost just that in tube atleast to buy! The big problem is that its ment for a TJ and to mount onto the rear of the quarter guards, I would need mine to wrap around a little more to mount onto the sides of the XJ. Could prob mod it to work though!

Thanks man. I do it all at home pretty much with just simple shop tools. I have a few friends help once in awhile that have the nicer tools lol

Looks like a good build plan, so long as you brace the side 1/4 panels. Is that your jeep with the partial build? I like this idea... may be what i consider as my solution. I was thinking of doing an exterior roll cage with swing out in the back, and a brace for the tire. A lot of work and expensive compared to this option, and this looks real nice.
