I'm not saying anything bad towards you. Just some people shouldn't take offense and jus let things be. I'm glad you help people. I'm one of those people that sit on here and learn what this forum is for. But there's no reason for people to argue over a thread like this. Hahaha that's all.
People need to use this forum for what it's intended for getting help and tips. I won't ask for tips if im planning on taking my vehicle to a shop.

By what you have said you learned everything by you doing it I respect it. And I'm here for the learning purposes and enjoy getting tips from ppl like you.

Wow! I'm currently IN high school and I don't see drama like this! Seriously guys, chill out. There's no point in fighting over the internet. It won't do anything but make you look bad in the long run.
We're all XJ owners and people look up to the Jeep community as being a bunch of good people who help others out. Whether it be rescuing another 4x4 on the trail, or just being friendly to others.....

There's nothing I hate more than people with automotive expierence that look down on those just starting. We were all there at some point and we need to aknowledge that more often. I'm happy to share my knowledge with anyone willing to learn. I mean I'm a junior in high school and I have state certifications in Automotive Electrical and Brakes, Steering, and Suspension. I wouldn't have gotten there without the help of those with expierence, end of story.

The only problem I have is with those who just take their Jeeps into the dealership to have things installed. The reason I dislike that is because of the fact that they do not even attempt to learn how to do it themselves. That's just lazy to me haha

Ha funny you mention this i did this with my first oil change on one of those saturns just starting out in a shop. looks exactly like an oil filter and when red started coming out I sealed it tight pretty quick added more trans fluid and went on with the the oil change .just gotta pay better attention that its attached to a transmission and not an engine

I go to the shop for tires, engine codes and clutches. I hate clutch jobs but, I can do them if I have to. I have a local mechanic that does all those nonsense things for me. Plus, I don't have alot of time anymore to do all those things that I'd rather do myself.

I wish I had picked a cheaper/easier hobby, like playing checkers, or collecting matches.

even that was more mutual help. it's a cool thing you get when you work on jeeps alot.

Jeep people are usually great. it's good to be able to get help. it's great to make friends. sometimes you will get sick of things and just want to take it to a shop....but there is no excuse to try and be "an active member of the jeep community" on the forums, then throw tantrums, give up, and take it to a shop every time the going gets tough.

I did my first EVERYTHING mechanical on jeeps. only two things I have left are (proper) bodywork, and gears. I can do everything else, because I'm not a sally like the people that Brutalxj is talking about.

I've taken my Jeep to shops before. It's my DD, and I'm not a mechanic, I also dont have a very good spot to work on it. However, I get more and more confident and I'm learning a LOT over the last few years thanks to this forum, and thanks to my father in law who has been a mechanic for 30 years.

I doubt my Jeep will ever see a shop again except for inspection.

Yeah I tend to have an "expensive hobby" problem....
Dirtbiking, Building my XJ/wheeling it and also driving it....The gas is the expensive part.
