Quote: Yes they suck, definitely rare lol. Also they may have 4.56:1 gearing...

Though I've yet to encounter any Briarwoods. I see the name come up on here very rarely.

I recall reading that about 10% of XJs were manual shift. Not exactly "rare"
I have a 91 jeep briarwood. It's decent, but not perfect

I've just been maintaining it. Nothing serious with offroad stuff yet, just the lift

Quote: "RARE" XJ's! There's someone locally selling a '95 lifted sport... claiming it's "RARE"... Not sure what's so "rare" about it; looks like every other one on here... he's asking $6K.

Hell, I gotta' '95 Sport; 156K on the clock. I think it's rare... it ain't lifted.
Clever marketing. Like premium fuel is better for your car that doesn't call for it.

I have a Grizzly Edition, not sure if it's rare or a dealer decal.

Bart_68, dealer added sticker that probably added a couple hundred to the sticker price.

Rare.. how about a Jeep Cherokee Targa? Yeah, it was a concept but at least one did make it into the wild.

Quote: so true. the rare ones are the stock ones.
I have a 1 owner bone stock '96 SE. It was garaged for 10 years when the cop that owned it died in the line of duty. 10 years I watched as her sister let it sit. She was finally ready to part with it, and I jumped.
Removable doors is the most drastic thing I've done so far.
Coming soon:
3" RC lift (was given to deceased 6 days before she passed)
31s
Custom Front bumper
Custom rear bumper w/carrier
minimal rust repair in the floor pans
Custom roof rack

So yeah, not stock for long. Then I'm gonna beat the S*** out of it like she would have wanted.

As someone who is in multiple large junkyards pretty much every weekend I would say the "rarest" ones I see are 2-wheel drive ones. But just to make it more specific.. 4 cylinder, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive.. Now that is one I rarely come across.... But as of today I have never seen a right hand drive XJ in a junkyard.

Might look better once you take it out of the crate.

Quote: I looked for a long time to find my 99' 2 door 5 speed 4x4
I found a 97 xj sport, it is a 2 door 4x4 5 speed with an rare up country package ( limited slip rear axle, factory 1"lift & skid plates over t case gas tank and front of the xj) bought it 2years back. If you keep looking they are out there and owners such as the previous one often don't know what they are selling

How about a 1989 Cherokee Limited 4.0L in burgundy with the gold web wheels? I've seen about 4 other 89 limiteds including my mechanics (but he decided to cut it in half and made it 3 feet wider just for fun. It's not necessarily for purpose though ) but none in my color.

A whole lot of XJs got taken out in the Cash For Clunkers program.

Many were decent looking. They would have had a lot of life left.

I did get some parts from them before they went to the crusher, though.

Quote: I'd say police packages are fairly rare. I've seen 3 RHD's (old postal jeeps) but I still think they're pretty rare.

I would LOVE to find a diesel XJ!
Can't move for RHD vehicles here!
Also lots of 2.5 diesels, but they'd get overtaken by an ice age so I'm not interested.

Diesel with an automatic certainly qualifies!
