Angry random sputtering issues

I have a 98 sport and it will randomly lose power and sputter at lower rpms. If i gun it it will pull out of it then go right back. When it idles it will bog down til it almost stalls then rev up and repeat. I've replaced plugs and wires when i bought it last fall and checked the distributor cap and it seemed in good shape. I've put dry gas in it and helps none. Idk if it could be a sensor, something wrong with computer or maybe a clog in the system??? I want to know what you guys think? it only does it on random times and will go away. and it's really starting to get annoying.

Default Check Your Gasket!

@BigAl I have a 99 cherokee sport and im having the exact same problems. What it might be(because i know my truck needs it) is the intake/exhaust manifold gasket.Check around the seal for any cracks or blownlittle pieces of metal. I'v tooken mine to a mechanic and they told me that the loss of pressure in the engine is what could be causing the loss of power and backfiring.
