Hey provo jeeper! I'm in SF, just ten minutes south!

But I'm also curious too. I think that most of them are pretty well interchangeable. Except the older ones. Mines an '89, and it's a closed system. I'm looking to upgrade to an open system like the later cherokees. But if anyone has any info for us, let us have it! I am in need also.

when you say the older ones what year is older to you? i would like to be able to go to a junk yard to get a radiator but they dont have any newer jeeps that i have seen. i already bought a brand new radiator but my fan hit it and put a hole. so im out 100$. so i would like to find one for like $25 for a temp fix till i can afford my motor mounts to ensure i dont put a whole in it. or till i get a e fan mounted up.

I don't know for sure, but i'm guessing in 91 is when they went from the closed to the open system. So anything above 90 should be okay. Or just find any cherokee, and check to see if it has a radiator cap ON the radiator. If it does, then you're okay. If there's no cap anywhere on the rad. walk away.

Yes, I'm assuming it should work. And i'm pretty sure if I buy a newer style radiator it should bolt in. We shall see!

According to the radiator parts numbers I saw, mid '90s to 2001 are showing as the same.

Rock Auto (www.rockauto.com) has them starting at around $80. For that kind of money, I'd just replace it new and save the extra work and potential problems with a used one. If you are worried about damaging it, just do what I did when I swapped the motor in the '97. I just put a piece of thin wood between the motor and radiator. Protected it just fine. Plenty of room with the fan removed.
