Question about buying a cherokee
I'm seeking advice from anyone who has input for me.
I'm looking to buy a 1993 Cherokee Country 4x4. 2nd owner car, was owned by an old lady who put 174k miles on it and kept it garaged. She traded it into the dealer who now is retired and owns it and his wife used it and now has 203k miles on it. It's been repainted and looks good, the interior is in perfect condition. Zero rust. He said the 4x4 has probably never been engaged, other than when I engaged it during the test drive.
The Bad:
He says he went to start it the other day and it wouldn't turn over. He replaced the battery and still wouldn't start. He was going to have a mechanic look at it to see if the starter was going bad. When I went to look at it, it cranked right over and ran great!
The AC/Heater when first turned on, there is a loud noise coming from the unit. I'm thinking it might be the blower, cause the sounds stops after 5-10 minutes of it warming up. When i turned it off then on again, the sound comes back but only for 5 seconds.
The rear axel appeared to be wet only on the right side, but I'm not sure if that is just from wear, or if it is a leak.
The retired car dealer (old man) is asking $3000. I offered him $2k and he wouldn't even budge. I don't have to buy a jeep right now, but other than the high millage, it's the nicest one i've looked at, I just feel $3k is too high for one with that many miles on it. Since I've never owned a Jeep, i'm seeking advice on what everyone thinks. Thanks for the input!

I own a 99 xj classic right now, it gave me 0 problems for a year until the cooling system starting acting up (radiator, heating, water pump etc etc) but now I'm starting to have starting issues as well. So if you like working on stuff yourself, I would get it, but 3k sounds a little much for that vehicle.

probably a neutral safety switch on the starting thing. but yeah, I wouldn't pay 3000 for a 93 with over 200k on it.

I just bought a 98 for 2500. I know a guy who just bought a 2001 for 2200 and it's real nice. I looked for 3 months and waited till I found, what I think, was a good deal.
Just don't be in a hurry, you will find one that you feel comfy paying for.
