Pulling Power.??
how do you guys feel about come along's? cable puller's? i do some moderate wheeling and sometimes find myself pretty stuck. i really cant afford a winch right now so i was considering a come along. i saw a 4 ton come along on ebay for 80 bucks. im tempted to buy it, but not before hearing from you guys. if not, i might as well save up for a cheapo gorilla winch, or smittybuilt.

I run with a 4tonne come-along.
People will say some awful stuff about them.
I've saved a friend from flopping.
I've pulled a friend out of a running river with water up over the bottom of the windshield (using a spare tire buried in sand) I've yanked a full sized blazer up out of a canyon (tied off to a cattle guard).
I prefer to have another vehicle tug, but, when a situation occurs that another vehicle cannot get into position, a come-along is a true savior.
No one died... All was un-eventful.
Under extreme load they are hell to operate, make sure you get a long handle.
I got mine underhanded from a government agency.... but this very closely resembles it

Just save you 80 and buy a cheaper winch. I got my lp8500lb superwinch for $399.99. I've used it to pull a one ton superduty back up the embankment on a lease road. Thats a 5 foot pretty straight down drop. Nothing against a comealong but Ive seen them fail under load before. Its a rare event but do you wanne be cranking on that thing when it lets go?

I always make sure to bring the come-along when I'm ready to hit the mud. Mine always seems to help get me unstuck as long as there's something to anchor to nearby. On a boring day, me and my buddies once used a come-along to flip an Exploder that was crashed up in the woods upside down, onto it's roof. It was pretty cool. My friend almost got crushed (that wasn't the cool part I was referring to though ) so we stopped being stupid for the rest of the day...or maybe it was for 10 mins or so.

ok so i might be opted to save up for a winch. but my question is. is it better to have a higher pulling ratio (216:1) or a lower pulling ratio (172.8:1)??? im comparing a warn & smittybuilt winch. which one would be better??
