In all honesty there are really no cons to a genuine RE kit. They probably make the best all around lift kit for the XJ and take it from somebody who went the cheaper route and bought the Rough Country 3" kit. If I could do it again I would've saved the cash for that kit and done it right the first time.

Do yourself (and your beloved XJ) a favor, get the Rubicon Express!

Is the fact that the control arms are not adjustable a problem?

You could give Joe at Endless mountain Fab a shot at your RE lift. He's a vendor on this site and has great prices. That's where I picked up my RE lift. Best price and best knowledge I found...
Look in the build section for him, he has a build called tech Snob going..

I have 5.5" rubicon express coils on my 89 but am running stock control arms and the rough contry control arm drop kit. I dont know about anyone else, but the coils sagged a bit, a little over an inch. I had to stick some coil spacers to level it out. In the rear i have 3" AAL and 3" blocks. As much as people say AAL's sag, i figured they would have dropped before the front.

Otherwise its great stuff. My 91 has the full 3.5" kit on it.

i've ran my 5.5 RE kit hard on nothing but flexy trails for over 5 years. coils and leafs never sagged, not even a 1/4 of an inch.
they ride super smooth over the rough stuff and no fear of any of it falling apart.
i have upgraded to a long arm kit with brand new 8 inch skyjacker coils and i should throw in some 2 inch spacers as they are almost the same lift height as the RE coils were when i took them out.

RE is definitely the best kit available. i still have my RE stuff that i will put in my little dd.

If you get one dont let 4wheelparts install it. As for the the control arms, I think you should get the dropbrackets. I bought them from Rough Country. The control arms should be parallel to the ground to help the axle from moving. M2c.

i think you should still go with adjustable control arms. my 5.5 RE has fixed control arms with drop brackets and my front right coil spring is a little bowed. other than that and the fact that the rear springs are a bit stiff, RE works for me.

your still gonna want adjustable control arms like said above. With the stock control arms and control arm drop kit on mine with the 5.5" lift, i still wasnt able to get my caster within spec when i did my alignment. I have them adjusted fully forward in the slots and they are just too short. They are pretty close to parallel to the ground and it rides really good on the road.

Use copious amounts of anti-seize with any threaded RE product. They have a nasty habit of seizing badly.

That would be true with any product. Not just RE.

Yes, but for some reason every RE threaded joint i've ever worked on has been seized. I can't say that of any other brand.
