well what can i say...it was fun while i had it. Im probably gonna take the mony i get off of it and buy a 2.5 or 3.0 5 speed ford ranger. i need better gas milage. and i could use the truck bed as well. but i will always recomend a xj to any one lookin for a car! I shur will miss the xj tho. that thing is bullet proof.

What year trucks are you looking at? Ford's offering some great deals on the new Rangers right now. My gf's boss just picked one up loaded for $23k.

You are going to have to get the 2.3L 4-cylinder Ford Ranger to gain any gas mileage. The 3.0 6-cylinder Ranger gets pretty much identical gas mileage as the 4.0 from an XJ.
Just a thought, but if you need the truck bed, you could just buy a trailer.

Hate to say it man, but hes right. If you are only making the trade for gas mileage than you will be disappointed. My buddy has an '01 with the 3.0L and gets the same as my XJ. Maybe one better on the freeway but he also drives a lot slower than me. My uncle has a 2.3L Ranger and loves it, but he prolly gets 2 mpg better than me. The little engine has to work harder to push the truck. He also has electrical nightmares. I love rangers and would buy one along with my jeep (an Fx4 with the 4.0 V6) but I wouldn't buy one for better fuel economy or reliability.
