Hey guys I could use your help. I'm getting ready to buy a cherokee to use as a DD and a weekend toy for me and my son. I have been searching craigslist for the last couple weeks to see what I stumble on but prices seem to be all over place. I really want to keep my price around the $2000 mark.
I'm not real picky as far year goes and it seems like reguardless of year that the mileage on everything in my price range is between 150,000 - 200,000. I know the I6 is a great motor but curious if I'm going to run into trouble with that kind of mileage? and am I screwing myself but looking only looking for vehicles in this price range?

Mileage isn't a problem, I've got a 99 with 203k and a 91 with 317k , both were somewhat neglected by previous owners. Just take care of them and they will go for a long time.
Where you located? That will have a lot to do with price.
Just look for one that's been somewhat taken care of and that's relatively rust free. The rest is fixable.

Like any engine, regardless of being the legendary inline 6, high mileage can be a problem. You don't know how the previous owner treated the engine. Some inline 6 engines reach half a million miles... some don't make it past 150k.
Make sure you get some good test-driving time into every Jeep you look at and take a close look under the hood before making any decisions. 2k for a Cherokee is going to be a common sight on Craigslist.

Prices are all over the place everywhere, actually. My area and many others share this effect. Certain people feel that they're going to sell their rigs and get all the money back out of it that they put into it, but more realistically because of the economy and demand, they won't. So the more realistic people are going to sell them cheaper.
You can get a decent Jeep for $3000.

My xj has 336 rust killed her not the motor my mj has 225 on it. Due good tune up test drive it well take it up hills get on the highway see how it reacts under different loads. First thing i do with any used car i buy is a tune up and flush/replace all fluids but be careful with an auto replacing trans fluid may cause it to slip
