Is there any way to get this sh*t off? I bought this jeep last month, 95xxx miles and runs great other than some heat soak. Looks like the old owners hit the roof and hood with a couple cans of rustoleum.
Other than the spray paint, the paint is in okay condition. It used to be a mail jeep, so the passenger door has some deep scratches. Would really love to get it repainted, just gotta convince the wife
Ugh I hate it when people think it’s that easy. My brother in law did some “rust repair” on his black ‘17 Ram by hitting some deep ding spots with some spray-can bedliner. When he went to trade in the truck they hammered him on the amateur bodywork. I’m talking like taking $2k off for that.
What you want isn’t that hard. How big is your workspace? Clean the surfaces good with a non-wax soap, wipe it down with wax & grease remover, run a DA sander over it, clean the surface again, hit it with base and clear (or a single stage). You could do this with rattle cans of SprayMax but it’s so much easier just to mix and spray it out of an actual air gun. No need for a magnum sized compressor either. I could do this job with my 8-gallon. Just have to be patient and plan your stages.
I’m not a pro but I’ve painted a few cars in my day.

I don't have a garage. Id perfer to not have to respray it myself, just take off the spray paint if possible. The spray paint is peeling in some parts, and what I can see the paint looks fine underneath. It does seem to have a small rust spot on the back corner of the roof like most XJ's.
