I know what you mean - if people would top eating so much sugar and artificial sweeteners they wouldn't get diabetes so much.

My 93 had a plethora of crap in it, mostly under the rear tumble seats: Half a dozen golf tees, miscellaneous business cards, crapload of candy wrappers, empty can of Fix-A-Flat, about a dollar in change, (mostly nickels and pennies), tint that turned purple and bubbled badly on all windows but the front two. Took me two days to get it off! A tailgate that wouldn't open, and the hydraulic lifts had been patched with bits of duct tape and tied-off pieces of rags. Seriously, when I went through this thing, it was like a band of hobo squirrels had been living in it for a few years. Ugh... Fortunately, the upholstery and body were all in good shape, so with a lot of love, sweat, swearing, and busted knuckles, I've gradually resurrected her.

My XJ was stock inside and out (factory stereo, etc). Until I found a strange manual switch installed under the dash (a really ugly, long blue switch). I could tell it was wired into the fuse box, but for quite some time I could not discern what it was for. The vehicle never had a tow package, or seemingly anything after-market on it all. No power options either (all manual internals).

Finally one night in the garage, when it was a bit dark out there, I tried the switch again and finally noticed that it was a manual on/off switch for the reverse tail lights (white lights). Pretty quickly realized that the reverse lights weren't coming on unless I jiggled the shifter forward when in reverse. So my guess is that he installed the switch to pass the state inspections after having the NSS replaced or something (after market NSS are known for not adjusting right and causing problems with the reverse light circuit).

I now use it as an anti-tailgater device. Drives aren't used to seeing reverse lights come on at 65mph, so it usually snaps them out of their coma and gets them to back off a little bit (we got a lot of tail gaters here who tail gate not because they are aggressive, but just because they aren't paying attention, or out of habit).

My xj was pretty clean inside, the only thing the PO left me was a security system without the remote to turn it off, he also never told me how to de activate it. The first time it went off was inside a carwash.

I had the same issue once. I learned to turn the key in the door to turn it off. It is now disabled for good

I ended up finding a on/off switch under the glove box so I turned it off. If I touch the power door locks however it turns it back on, when it warms up I'm going to try and remove the whole system.

Be careful. If you hit a wrong wire while removing the factory alarm, you can disable the jeep for a while. I took one wire and grounded it. That killed the whole system and its been just fine since
