Do a "Complete Tune-Up" and change all fluids and filters will give you a performance increase, and do the one indicated by your mileage.

Put your money into solidifying your rig and making it as reliable as possible. It won't matter how much power your engine has if it can't get it to the road.

An optimized exhaust system will be the biggest gain in power for bolt-on. Maybe consider the cowl intake mod so your engine will breathe cooler air. A supercharger or a stroker could go in there but those are big $ and you will struggle even more getting that power to the road.

Great...now I feel like an idiot for putting a stroker in mine. Thanks, Frank.

It's the direction I'm attempting to go now. You can get everything pretty cheap these days for the swap. Hell a new 4.8/5.3 block can be had for $400 from summit. I paid $750 for my complete L33 with wiring and computers. Just need a trans as the one with it is toast.

He said he built one. There's a difference between building one and installing one that Golen built.

A stroker is not necessarily big money if you build it yourself.

True enough! Although must just be him.. those guys on the jeepstroker forum build some pretty mean ones and Golen built both of ours haha. Must be skill/experience :P (which I dont have and is why I bought one)

It's quality control and the use of a proven combination of parts and assembly procedures. If I build one myself, I have to decide what parts need to go into it and whether they play nice with one another. Golen doesn't have to do any of that educated guesswork because they have refined their builds to a point where the outcome is predictable.

I'll build my suspension. I'm even taking an AWS certification course and expect to do some welding on my rig before too much longer. But for the power plant, I'm perfectly content to let someone else build that.

I got mine on CL for $2500 pretty much drop in ready, but spent a lot of money replacing things along the way, I'd say I have about $3500-4000 in it total. I could have done it a LOT cheaper, however, I'm of the mind that now is the time to replace small items. I also now have a large spare parts pile for the trail.

I built my stroker for around $3000 for the long block. Now it was a little different, 4.8L sleeved. I had never built. 4.0 before but I've done several ford's and 2 chevys so I followed the same principles. I probably would have had another $1500 in it for turnkey but ended up selling it for $4000 to a local club member.

This was why I jumped on the motor when I saw it. I knew I couldn't even get a long block for that. It was a no-brainer.

You did good. I wheeled and dealed to be a 3k. The block and head where free. I ported the head out and assembled it. Did final assembly on the block. That alone saved around $1500 from the machine shop.
