From what ive been told, it changes the shifting pattern on your tranny. meant for towing, so your tranny shifts at different RPMS.

Correct guys?

that is correct...I just leave it in power mode as it shifts a little harder which in theory will keep the tranny alive longer IE quicker, firmer shifts = less slippage= less heat== longer life.

This subject has been brought up a million times before. I forget the really long tech explaination, but the search button will find it.

Basically, this button was a pathetic attempt at a smoother ride in the XJ. I think it may have also been an attempt to help achieve slightly better gas mileage with lower rpm shifts. Anyways, as defiance once explained it to me, the comfort switch feathers the clutches in the clutch pack together to make a smoothe shift. This causes them to wear out sooner because it is basically an intended version of clutch slip. The Power switch basically allows the tranny to shift at higher RPM's with a firmer consistent shift. Model XJ's after a certain year were hard-wired into Power mode.

It also keeps your finger out of your bellybutton.

I put the power/comfort switch in my 91 XJ in power 5 years ago and I have never taken it out. It has been bumped into comfort accidently a couple of times. I casn always tell rightaway as my tranny starts feeling like it's slipping like crazy. Put it in power and forget about it. You will be glad you did.
