Default Power steering cooler

So I wanna run a power steering cooler I pull a boat during the summer and seem to only wheel when it's really hot. Well anyways last time I was pulling my boat my steering kinda got hard. Ik my ps pump may be starting to go out.
But ok to the point my question is, is anyone else running a ps cooler? If so what brand? Or is it a jy one? Also how has it worked for you?
Thanks in advance!

When I run steering assist I will run a cooler and that is the only time it is required. I still have a year before the 39's go on so it will be a wile.

I have ran 2. Both junkyard version.
First was a stock cherokee cooler..I was looking at cherokees and alot had this small-ish cooler in front of the radiator. Its like 3x10 or so..Worked good, replaced my steering pump because it was leaking and I picked up a bigger cooler off a those big old Chevy Burbans. All the 90's got them.
I think its there stock trans cooler, but its decent sized and resembles a B&M cooler.
If you google search "jeep power steering cooler" or something similar there should be on that pops up. Guy used a cooler off a old F series work truck. All will work, just get a decent shape and size and find out where to mount it.
Mine is mounted in the bigger hole behind the stock front crossmember.

It is kinda or really unnecessary with tires smaller then 35's. Towing will not effect your steering. When you think your working it hard with 33's or smaller tires. Jump out and check how hot the fluid really is... It's ok I'm right.

Alright sweet. I haven't seen the smaller Cherokee cooler yet. But I will start looking. And the chevy one sounds good too. Thanks for the input. Mine actually boiled out some when I was pulling my boat. I don't want that again.

idk what the cooler on the cherokee was..I'll check google for a picture of it, but I'd go the biggest bar and plate one you could. Don't get a tube and fin..look it up online if you don't know the difference!

Heres the stock XJ one I used. Nothing wrong with it, loved the size actually. But since I was replacing stuff I got a bigger one lol..didn't know a difference before & after at all, other than my power steering pump that got replaced.

That cooler is the stock trans cooler for tow package xj's

I'd rather have a cooler vs have my power steering fluid boil over. Theres no set rule saying 35's or bigger gets a power steering cooler, and that its not needed with anything smaller!

Theres different situations! And its better to have than have not!

And thanks I really need to go to the jy or pullapart and look for some sort of cooler then since that's what everyone has run and have had success. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Also my 33's arnt light. Also have a 5 inch lift and locker and bumpers and skid plates and everything else just adds on more and more weight. I'm not doing it to a stock jeep.

I think you need to stop over filling your power steering pump. They can handle way more then you are giving it. But what do I know. Hay why don't you add differential fluid coolers too. Or head light fluid coolers that would be sweet!

Wow someones a smart ***. Sorry I wasn't born yesterday Ik what I'm talking about. I've been working on jeeps for several years now I am a Chrysler tech and have been working at a shop for a little while now. Also i talked to our 30 year tech abou tthis problem I've had. He told me to run a cooler bc it will help the problem and prevent more problems in the long run. Btw he specializes in jeeps and trucks. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.

Can't take a joke I see. LOL Anyway you shouldn't be having that issue with your rig. I know its not stock but I have put mine through way worse and I mean the 3 I have owned and never had that issue. This summer I wheeled the hit out of mine with 36's in over 100 degree heat all day. And I was not nice to it! Besides the towing I have dune and never had that happen with any of mine. I would say something in you system is not working right. I would strip it all down and clean it looking for sludge or broken parts.

I run ATF in my power steering, never an issue either, but again I'm only on 31's..I still run a power steering cooler. I think its added benefit, the cooler the fluid is the longer its life will be!

My reasoning is sorta thinking like track cars. They run oil coolers, because it will let them run longer harder, and have their oil last longer!
Just because the oil can take the abuse doesn't mean it should! Just me reasoning!
