Default Powdercoating Aluminum wheels?

Is it possible? Any advantage over painting?

How well would it hold up to roadsalt?

Can custom colors be mixed?

Anyone with powdercoating experience?

yeah, you can powercoat AL, its better than paint, the powercoat is stuck to the metal with electricity, then baked on. It's harder than regular paint, and will last longer. There are usually a few industrial places around (fab shops) that have a powercoat line. Just find one that will do it for cheap, satin black is usually a cheap color. They can just throw your rims on the line without changing the color. Least around here anyways. Last time i looked into it it was like 35 a rim, including them being lightly sandblasted to clean them up. Sand blasting is a must too before you power them.

Thanks guys..

How durable is powdercoating around salted roads? If the salt will eat it up in a few years i'd figure my best option would be to paint and touchup when needed.

I'm thinking of doing a set of Canyons or Grizzly's for the ZJ project.

Powder Coating is very durable.

It's basically a plastic coating in just about any color you want..

Q) In regard to clear powder coating aluminum wheels to combat salt; how does it look, how long does it last and are they easily chipped up at the tire shop?

A)We stock matte clear and gloss clear at our shop, both of which would work well on aluminum. Today's powders are designed to last around 5-10 years depending on outside conditions.
You shouldn't see chipping if the tire place is doing what they should.

I'd lightly sand blast them, And then a clearcoat of polyurethane. Cheap, probably wouldn't have to remove the tires. And they look good. Or buff them to shine, after sand blast. That looks even better. JMO!

1 thing I don't like about powder coating is it hide's small fractures that can become big.
