Its totally a personal preferance. I never like them on a vehicle that will get offroad and winter driving duties. Just makes it too hard to clean. If mud coming through them gets to be a problem I can make a foam baffle to shove in there that I can just pull out when I wash it, but I don't like covering up parts of a vehicle that are exposed to a lot of debris.

This is what I was referring to (not exactly thinking of a pool noodle...) about foam in the fenders. Most cars have something like this anyways to reduce the noise from wind blowing through the fenders.
