Default possible ZJ

So a buddy of mine has a 93 ZJ he's had sitting on his yard for about nine months. Its got the 4.0 but has a coolant leak. He said he would get it running warm and put an egg in the radiator once a week to keep it from leaking (ghetto!). The drivers side door sags when its open, the rear lift gate doesn't open cause something is probably stuck in it and the headliner is all messed up. The 4wd engages nicely though and the radiator is a couple years old.

He'll sell it to me for 200 bucks should I try and fix a little and sell it for like 800 or 1000 or should I just try and part it out? The engine does run nicely but there was some oil in the air filter box.

What do you think?

Not really sure what you should do, but an egg in the radiator is incredibly ghetto.

Buy it and fix the things that are wrong with it, and by the time you're done fixing it you will have already fallen in love with it. Buy it, fix it, keep it, and love it.

Ghetto the way he was doing it, yes. But great for getting you home in a pinch.

My '93 ZJ cost me $200 because it would start and stall or die after a bit. It had a bunch of little stuff. I gave my brother in law the $200, grounded the security system, and drove it home. Been fixing her ever since.

I'm going to go on a limb and guess that you're friend is not competent enough to take care of the Jeep, so it's probably TLC it needs.

It does already have a 4.0 motor in it. It is pretty beat up and the paint job is chipping and pealing something wicked. I wouldn't mind keeping it as a DD or making it the total trail rig but I don't really have space for it or the cash to take care of both vehicles. It's also got some other cosmetic things (that can easily be fixed with JY parts) and by XJ is just in better condition. It would make a good trail rig though if I had the cash to do it.

Great in a pinch but he just did it every week regularly!

Is it a vaccuum leak that usually causes oil in the filter?

Well there you go. Based on that it seems like you already know you should pass.

Well I mean as a long term build. I'd have some cash to fix a few things and try and turn it to make some cash on it. I was thinking of trying to make some cash to finance my XJ build.

I'd pay 200 for any variation of Jeep (ZJ or XJ, CJ, JK, the real ones. ) if it ran, no matter how much work it needed.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I'm sure I can at least make my money back if nothing else. And if it really came down to it I could grab the seats that I want out of it and maybe a couple parts and have Pick and Pull tow it in and pay me for it.

True story, 200 isn't anything for a running Jeep. If you keep it a while, can't save anything or get time to work on it, sell it again!
