So Ive used POR in the past, but never kept the vehicle long enough to see long-term affects.
Does anyone know, what exactly does it do long-term? I mean, does it stop the rust from getting worse and spreading? I know it hardens up like a rock, but is it only a surface thing, or does it penetrate through? If you have a piece of sheet metal, like a rocker that has a bunch of nasty rust on it, and you sand it and paint it with POR, does it stop the rust cold in its tracks from moving in any/every direction (N, E, S, W or even through)?
Kinda wondering if its a true long-term fix, or more of a catch it soon enough preventative.

So, think of it like this... You've got a sheet of paper. If you drip water on it, it's ruined, right?
Well, what if you laminate that paper? You could pour an entire glass of water on it, and it's going to be protected.
BUT, if there was already water inside the laminate, then the damage has been done.
It seals off the metal from moisture better than paint and clear coat can, stopping rust. But what damage has already been done isn't "repaired" by POR15.

I use Chassis Saver, it is about the same stuff as POR15. What it does is incapsulate the rust and pulls the moisture out of it as it drys......this stops the rust. I use it on both of my cherokees, I like it. Prep is everything with this stuff and dont get it on your skin..

POR-15 is meant to cure when it gets damp, rather than dry by evaporation. The idea is that evaporation leaves tiny holes where the moisture left and that is how water attacks your paintwork in years to come. POR-15 cures with a totally impermeable surface and stops rust because there's no way that the conditions for rust (air and water) can form on the surface of your metal.
That's the spiel anyway!
I've tried POR-15 and it seems pretty good, not exactly the cure-all they'd have you believe. OTOH I didn't apply it myself so I can't speak as to the prep work.

That should answer some questions. Ive used some on my WJ and its held up very well for 2 winters so far. My dad also used some in the floor of his MJ. Its great stuff, just dont get it on your skin or hair. I got nearly all my hair hacked off and people still commented on my grey spots. lol

Like I said, Ive used it previously and it seems great. Ive read over their site too, but really, they can tell you anything they want. I guess what I was wondering was, if anyone here had used it one their vehicle 10 years ago and still had the vehicle and could attest to its longevity.

Just because their site says it works doesn't mean its true. Don't believe everything you read.
