Default por-15 vs herucliner for rust

i have some rust under my XJ. i was thinking of ordering por-15 but i already have some herculiner laying around. should i take a wire wheel to the rust and herucline it. or get por-15? just tryna get to it before the rusts gets further along.

Best bet is to buy a small hand held sand blaster, and then POR-15 over the sand blasted area. In most cases putting bed lineer over an area that is already rusted just speeds up the process.

I recently used por-15 on my front axle. this **** is incredible. it dries smooth to the touch. you can just paint right over the rust with it. just wire brush it and knock off all the chips and chunks and dirt. then wash it and start painting. as long as it's cleaned off really well, this stuff sticks to anything and comes out smooth.

I will definitely be using the black por-15 to undercoat my xj

oh and see how much is left in the can? I covered the whole axle and still had that much left

Guess ill be order a can tomorrow. I heard prep is key for por 15, if you don't do everything, it'll chip and crack not to long down the road.

that's probably true. I spent hours prepping mine and it was still contaminated in a couple spots. this was the most effective tool. it took off a ton of rot and dirt in a matter of minutes.

I talked with POR and my body shop guy about the best way to apply it. It sticks best to treated and cleaned rust but is followed by a second cleaned sand blasted surface.

I sand blasted my MJ and coated in POR15.

Don't forget to top coat the POR with something that is UV stable. Any kind of spray paint works perfect for this.
