Default Pick up a Gem of a XJ

Hey guys,

Im pretty new to this forum but i have been lurking for a little while... i picked up this 1991 XJ yesterday after looking for about 6 months for a clean one. I have to say i am pretty pleased with the purchase

I bought it off the second owner which he only had for about 4 months. This is the following specs and details of the purchase.

-It has 74,000miles on original drivetrain
-no accidents
-recent tune up from second owner
-new tires new rear shocks
-just changed trans fluid with new filter and dex/merc valvoline
-engine receives mobile 1 10w30 which the PO was using.

Honestly there is not a spot of rust on the body or undercarriage it rides extremely well and runs perfect. Im super happy with it..

Next on the list is change both diff oil and trans and engine.

here are some pictures which i will try and get better ones.

I'd put it in a garage and keep it like that if I were you lol. Too clean to modify.

Probably not to much except for some maintenance things.. this is what im doing this week.

-Change the oil in the diffs
-Change the T-case oil
-Engine oil

future plans, I intend to swap out the idiot cluster for a Gauged cluster. Ive been reading up what i need to do for this... I think i got the information i need... Does anyone have a 91 xj tached cluster for sale?

Its going to be my run around/travel Jeep.... I have a Chev safari i use for work hauling my Painting gear around.. so i don't plan on putting to many miles on it per year.. maybe only 10,000 or less.

probably also switch out the water pump and thermostat down the line..

im going to keep this jeep all stock and restore as much as possible back to original. No modifications.

Very nice, clean XJ. Nice find!
For the cluster, search junk yards, craigslist, and ebay. Ive seen a few of the clusters with the factory tach in junkyards around here, wish I could find one that would work in my Jeep.

Thanks for all the great comments guys! I've been reading up on various tech articles to familiarize myself with the xj.

WOW! that is super clean! nice score! I have a 93 w that same "console-less" interior. Not too common. That interior is beautiful...and the T case???? not a drop of any fluid anywhere....jealous!
