Peeling Paint on Gran Cherokee
I have a 97 Jeep Gran Cherokee that the paint is peeling right off the roof and hood. Anyone else have that problem?

its pretty common for most cars of that era
this is really old but it will give you an idea of the vast amount of people who suffer with peeling paint

The 90's were some bad years for paint. The technology was changing and the bugs weren't worked out. I have a 95 ZJ with a 96 left front fender on it, that one fender is peeling, the rest of the vehicle is not bad.

I wrote the Jeep Company and ask them about it. I told them that every older Jeep I see, the paint is peeling (and on mine, it is popping up off the body and not leaving a hint of color on it). They told me that I was the first they had heard of it. They couldn't tell me what the problem could be. I sent back a message to them that said "B.S."

My 2001 XJ has really bad paint Cracking on the roof. I think they call it Alligator cracking or something. Same thing as someone else said, the car companies were/are attempting to make everything more environmentally safe & the out come is a product that doesn't last or weather very well over time....
Didn't the Dodge Dakota's always have the paint peal? all you'd see was a really nice primer color under the paint.. I thought they weren't preping the primer properly for the final paint color.... Effin Chrysler Motors!

Honestly, Ive seen some surprizingly nice paint on a few XJ on this forum.
The paint on my 93 is not that bad, if I do say so myself. I guess white holds up alill better then most colors.
