Default parking brake

Hi guys
Got a bit of an issue with my parking brake. It doesn't work
I have a pretty good idea what the issue is, but just wondering if any of you have had the same.
Mine is an '03 KJ 2.5 CRD btw.
When you pull the lever inside, the brake shoes don't move.
There is a lever that is on the end of the parking brake cable and I think that is the problem.
A few pics for reference

The lever is made up of 2 parts. #3 + #4 in the last pic.
My guess is it has just seized up and needs freed off.
Any help as always is welcome

I would just soak that part in PB blaster, and take a wire brush to clean up the rust. Once it's broke free, I'd apply a liberal amount of white lithium grease to the seized part

The parking cable can rust in place,Like said pb blaster and wait a few days for it to soak in.

---update---
took them apart this morning. the lever on the end of the cable wasn't seized. very rusty, but not seized! whatever goes through the middle of the two bits broke off and i'm not sure what it's supposed to be. looks like a rivet, but not sure.
anybody got any ideas?

Just grab yourself a nut and bolt combo that'll fit snuggly without interfering with the other mechanisms. My whole drums looked like that, so I ditched them and went with the disc brake swap

It has crossed my mind to just use a short nut + bolt! I do have disc brakes on the rear

I hate you!! Jk. A carriage bolt will usually fit nicely in the square slot and a nylon nut makes sure nothing comes undone. Hope this helps

good idea on the carriage bolt
I have only taken apart one side for now to see what's going on. It won't be getting put back together today but will post an update when it's done. I'm still not sure if this will solve my problem however. Guess I just need to try it

I just did a full rebuild of my E-Brake and a kit with all the parts inside the E-brake minus the pads was under 20 bucks.

I actually purchased from a local auto parts store a "family" owned business with a few warehouses and 7 stores. The kind of place where 50% of the time they know the part and number before you are finished telling them what you need. I do believe the kit was made by dorman. I'll see if I can get you a part number. It was MUCH simpler than trying to clean all the parts up.

You all know he's talking about a Liberty, right?

They call them Liberty's here, and Cherokees across the pond...
