I wanna paint my patriot blue XJ tan, my rear hatch is also a different color, its a lighter blue. I wanna do with like a flat or satin tan, nothing glossy cus you can see all the scratches on my jeep from tree branches from wheeling. I was wonder why type of paint you recommend? not trying to spend a lot of money. I would either spray paint it or use my air compressor, idk which will be easier or cheap. any thoughts?
thanks guys. I will be sure to upload pictures when i get it done. probably will be in 3 weeks once i am done with school, could be sooner though.

My buddy did a roll-on rustoleum paint job on his truck and it looks REALLY good. Lots of good primers out there, thats the most important thing really: Prep, primer, prep. He did it with a foam roller and stuff he saw on the net. Loads of info regarding it out there. Cheap and easy driveway job.

I'm just wrapping up my latest build and went for a similar look.
I went with rattlecan... I wanted to do desert sand but could only find it in flat ,which would be a nightmare to keep clean, so I settled for a Satin Int/Ext Almond.

If you look at the back hatch, it's still bedliner. I spray it with bedliner first and then sand that to remove most of the texture but still leaving a nice hammered feel. It helps the paint to appear much more even after application (spraying a smooth surface with rattlecan can be difficult if you wish to avoid the dreaded tiger striping spray lines). The added texture also really hides minor body imperfections but is still smooth enough to allow you to wax it if you wish to prolong the rattlecans paint life... As a plus I love the look and get lots of comments on it...
I did my '93 the same way about 6 months ago and it's held up perfectly!

Mine is satin almond and it looks great. I used krylon brand, it looks much better than the rustolium.

Ive done two of my Jeeps with rattle can, paint the first one was with Krylon Tan. And the other was with Hunter specialty olive drab, which I would not recommend, it is fading alot after a year.. Currently redoing with the Gillespie coating for Armyjeepparts.com in the tan color.

All those Cherokees looks nice with those paint job. I will probably go with cans since people seem to be having good results with them and it isn't to expensive either. Prep wise, do I was sand it down to the metal or just til the scratch us the blue paint?

I wet sanded with 400 on mine before the liner... If you're spraying it smooth, I'd wet sand with 600. Prep it well and spray a section at the time keeping it wet and you should be good to go.
