Default painting over foam headliner

I have a 1994 cherokee sport. The headliner was falling down like most of them do. I tore the headliner out, and now there is a foam layer showing. Instead of replacing the headliner, I was wondering if anyone has spray painted over the foam. I don't know what kind of paint would be needed to stick to the foam.

It might just be a better idea to remove the foam and prep the metal itself, then paint it. I wouldn't paint the foam personally.

The glue needs to be for (HEADLINERS) , can be found at napa for about $12.00 or so, dont cheap out on spray glue or you will end up redoing it on the first hot day! , or just go without a headliner.

A total of $50 for me to replace mine with matching original looking fabric and glue. (Did headliner and overhead console.) Purchased off the Internet. Very happy with it.
