Painted wheels?
Have a 1998 jgc limited with the horrible black with gold pin stripe and polished wheels with gold on them, I want to paint the gold wheels and remove the pin stripes, my question is what is a cheap but durable alternative to having the wheels powder coated? Spray paint? If so how could I do this where it would last a while with minimal touch ups

Hey man, I painted my rims recently myself. I actually used Dupli-Color Black Acrylic Laquer. Took me 1 1/2 cans to do 3 coats on 5 rims. Then I used the Dupli Color Clear coat and put two coats of that on each rim. I put them through heavy car wash and dirt and some good heat and they hold up awesome. Remember to sand!

Thanks, to be honest I kind of rushed it and will probably go over again to ensure it perfect. I got all my supplies from Autozone too. I got 500 grit sandpaper and sanded down all the wheels. Then used tack cloth to get the dust off. Sprayed first quick light coat, then the second coat pretty heavy to cover it all. Third coat is the same. Let all dry completly then do clear coat. I think I should make a little thread for it soon
Good luck with it! If you have anymore questions just ask

Thanks for the complement though, I've had several people ask me where I bought them and I love saying I painted them. Always a good feeling doing things yourself
I have steel wheels, but I used air craft stripper to get all the old paint off and back to the bare metal, cleaned it off, and spray painted them with dupi-color wheel primer, paint and dupi-color clear coat. I also swapped the center caps from a different set of wheels.

I painted nine with Napa primer flat black. Then used rustolium high performance wheel paint, then clear coated with Napa clear. I cleared nine while the paint was still wet. Worked out great.
