Default Paint Job

Well, Im getting rid of the black on this ole rig and doing something different. (pics will come when its done)

I gathered up supplies ie: paint, spray gun, tape, sand paper, etc etc etc...

I also have a clean and dry garage to paint in...(thanks dad...lol)

I was wondering if there were any specific steps I need to go in or if anyone has any pointers from there own personal experience...

any input is welcome!!!

look at my build thread i painted mine.

BTW if you have a gas water heater do NOT paint in the garage. The fumes plus the pilot light will level a house. Also, paint gets everywhere so tape EVERYTHING a needle sized hole will allow paint dust to get thru(ask how i know) also you need a mask. I used a carbon filter mask. It is all about prep. prep prep prep....

use a test panel to test spray and get the gun PSI right so you dont get lemon peal or worse. orange peel. Painting is fairly easy. 50% overlap is key, and light even coats.

Nope, garage will be safe. Were going to crack the door, and open a few windows..... thanks for the tips, I actually did forget to pick up masks and goggles.

Thanks again!

if you do have a gas water heater turn the pilot off please. Just as a safety measure. . They are not that hard to relight.

if you have any further questions let me know.

oh and follow the mixing guide for your paint depending on the temperature you are painting in

dont just crack the door get a lot of air movement in and out of the garage IE a few big box fans pull air out of the garage. painting in a closed space with out venting(moving air with fans) will kill you

What sandpaper would you use....grit wise? I picked up 1500, 1200, and uhhh...I cant remember. This is my first time painting a rig.

(p.s. reading your build.... very well done)

ji just used 320 grit on a random orbital. Came out the roughness it should be. then hand sanded with a block with 400 grit. 400 grit is as low as you want to go.
