In the following months I will be preparing to paint my 96 XJ so if anyone has recommendations for a cheaper paint gun that can get the job done please let me know.
I have always heard that devil bliss is a good DIY gun set up.

Still have not pulled the trigger on this kit yet. but will be when I start painting my volvo 240 project to practice before I paint the jeep.

I have that kit, and it's expensive Chinese junk. You can buy the similar thing at Harbor Frieght for half the price. DeVilbiss still makes a quality gun, but you have to go with their "Pro" line of guns.
Also, forget about trying to spray with a gravity feed gun unless you have at least a 5 HP compressor. Any other compressor will not keep up with the gun's demands. The above referenced gun is gravity fed. Stick with a suction feed gun otherwise:
If you're on a budget, this is a decent gun:

It's similar in quality of the StartingLine DeVilbiss but half the cost and will work on a smaller compressor. If you have a 5 HP+ compressor, this would be just as good as the StartineLine and again much cheaper:

You have to look at the CFM requirement on each gun. From my understanding the syphon type use higher pressure and lower volume, and the HVLP are just the opposite. Some guns require 12+cfm, which would mean a much bigger compressor. You should also think about a filter and regulator, and even the fittings you use to provide the best airflow.
