Default Overhead Console?

Let me start by saying this- I plan on keeping Chery till the day I die, and I'm only 20, so it's gonna be a long time (I hope!). So here's the point- is it worth installing an overhead console from a limited? It looks nice and all, but I'm wondering if it's really worth putting in, how much extra room to store things is really in there? If anyone has any pics of how they've made there's useful, pics would be awesome... so, opinions? Oh, and she's my DD as well as wheeler... although I haven't been able to hit any REAL trails, just some light stuff behind Exxon and etc.

Dont bother the space is minimal and most people just fill them with crap (like napkins from burger king, or AA batteries, or garbage) anyway.

I say do what you want to your baby... If you like the way it looks, go ahead! Nothing like bonding with your XJ by adding little things here and there, I know I love doing that!

My 97 Country has an overhead. The Instantaneous mileage is really nice, It changes your driving habits when you can actually watch yourself get 12 MPG. If I keep a close eye on it I can mamage 17.5. A lot of people use the sunglass/crap holders for switches. I would recommend it if you have the skills.

My 96 Sport came with one, I like the direction and temp part. When you push the left button it just goes off, what is it supposed to show? The sunglass and garage opener compartments are worthless for me. I like the lights for the front and back also.

The left button switches Metric to Standard ( if you push both at once it resets the odo )

My right button switches in between the metric and standard, my left button is the one that one pushed makes the screen go black, push it again and the direction and the temp comes back on.

I don't know about the 2nd gens but my 90 xj didnt have an overhead console but it came with all the connectors already in the wiring harness for it. All I had to do was get the console, the harness that goes down the a pillar and the air temp sensor and that was it. Its a all a plug and play install. I'm going install switches in mine too. Again I'm not sure about the newer xjs but check it out and search it.
