It does. Two different XJs, one with carpet, one without. There's quite a difference.

Ive had both and currently dont have carpet and barely notice it. The only places it even gets hot is the trans tunnel which I can still stick my leg on in shorts and the passenger floor board. It's noticable but not enought that I wouldnt rip out ****ty carpet or bedline it.

It's hot as hell here in the summer with or without carpet.

Not much a difference for me. Take the doors off, no carpet, bedlined interior - heat's not an issue. Even with the doors on it wasn't THAT bad. And I spent the first 24 years of my life in Michigan, so VA is A LOT hotter and more humid in the summer. Like I said, the trans tunnel is what gets hot, nothing else. Throw some fatmat on there, bedline it with a quality bedliner, and guess what, that hot trans tunnel isn't so hot anymore. I can drive mine on the road for 3 hours and the tunnel is warm to the touch, not even close to hot.

BTW, no A/C for 3 years running now.

i love carpet

removing it 3 xjs ago was one of the worst things i did.

significantly hotter, significantly louder, not as comfortable, looked uglier, dirt showed better and swirled around in mah face when wind hit it.

I think the biggest thing you're gonna discover is that some of us love not having carpet anymore and some wish they still had it. Pull the carpet in way that it can still be used and drive it around for a bit. See how YOU like it and make your decision. Heck, even bedline the floor if you want. That way, if you decide to leave the carpet out, it's already done. If you decide to put it back in, you've got a little more sound deadening/heat reducer.

This.

Trust me, keep the carpet. I regretted taking it off and had to source another one.

You live in nashville, its hot as 7 hells in the summer, I know..im right down in chatt-town..I wouldnt ever remove the carpet on a DD...My buds floors are bedlined and you sweat bullets in that thing when its like 80 out..plus it makes driving it noticeably louder...and if you dont do it rite..looks like ****. Keep the carpet.

For those of you who regret pulling it Team Cherokee sells OEM carpet for like $200 new.

I've toyed around with the idea of buying it to put back in since I do like the look of it better, but I know it'll just get destroyed from wheeling, parts, ect.

I'm leaning more and more into keeping the carpet. I am thinking about pulling it to paint the floor then dynomat it.

Does anyone know of a company that makes really good form fitted matts ? Like weatherteck?

I would love to have them in the front, back, and cargo area.

I removed the carpet on my previous xj and it sucked. Super hot and loud as hell. I actually found it more tedious to clean the bare floor. Its easier to shampoo the carpet at the carwash. Unless of course your carpet is ruined or smells. If its good, leave it alone.
