Default Opinions on this 1999 that is for sale.

I'm searching for a 1999 XJ Cherokee, I think I may have found it.
It has the original 4.0L I6 engine with 152,000 miles, asking price is $3,500.00. Here are a few pictures of it.

It's an I6 4.0 not v6.... Price seems reasonable for NY. How rusty is it underneath? Did they just paint the trim? I've seen some shady people try to hide rust with paint.

Spoke to owner and he said there is no rust at all, except for a few scratches on the paint which is expected. I can not see it until the weekend because is 2 hours ride from home. Looking at other 1999 bay engines I could see this Jeep is missing this..

That's the ABS pump. My 99 doesn't have it either.

ABS isnt that big of a deal. Only thing I would be concerned with would be why does he have a filter on the CCV vent tube? Not sure about price in NY that would be a 2500 Max around here.

Looks clean. Check it for rust. Get under there and check the entire undercarriage. A little surface rust isn't bad. Just look for major crunchy rust spots. Also, you might get stopped with those blacked out signal/tail lights... Just an FYI. The price a a bit high, and the only thing he has worth anything in there is a CD player. CCV has a filter on it? The CAI looks like it's held together with velcro. Also check the rad fluids and oil. Also the rear is sitting really low. I have flat leaf packs (stock) and my *** doesn't sag that much.

The springs do not worry me at all, it will have a mild lift as soon as I get it. where does the ccv go to?

The ccv goes to your air intake, which on this XJ has been replaced with an odd little filter. Never seen that before. It looks solid at a glance, though. Do they have service records of any kind? I do my own maintenance, but I keep a log in case I have to sell mine.

As has been said, check the fluids for condition and levels. Get underneath and have a good look at the frame, axles, bushings, oil pan, transfer case and diff's. Look for leaks, rust, scrapes and any attempts to clean them up. Look for mis-matched sheet metal, paint overspray and other signs of collision damage.

Make sure you start up the engine from cold. I had someone try to trick me by warming up a motor beforehand so I wouldn't hear it when it started. Try to gauge if the steering is centered. Check the exhaust for smell of gas or oil while running. Give the brakes a go and see if they're even and solid.

My 2 cents. I hope it works out for ya!

for the NY NJ area that is not a bad "asking" price. If it checks out as stated above then i would offer 2700 and go from there. It does look clean.

I would def find out out what rears and gears it has. the sag might be from towing, at which point you want to pay close attention to the trans. make sure it doesn't slip and stuff like that. def check the color of the trans fluid. if its pink its good. if its got any shade of brownish to it... smell it. if it smells burnt walk away or figure a new tranny.

let us know how it goes. def get rid of those tinted tail lights. its gonna get u killed.
