Default Oklahoma Help 1988 Cherokee Project

Mods, feel free to delete if this is the wrong section...

I am new to the community and 4 wheel drives in general. I have a job taking me out to BFE were the only way to get around safely is by having a 4 wheel drive vehicle. The area is mostly coral sand and crushed coral roads.

My buddy is giving me his 1988 Cherokee that is pretty much mechanically sound. I will be crossing some rivers and creeks so I want to raise it a bit. I am looking at used parts and so far have found my fender flares, a set of front 4-4.5 springs and a lowering bracket for the trackbar. I really only planned to raise the Cherokee 3 inches but the springs were in the package. I am really unsure everything I will need to complete the lift so I am here looking for suggestions and parts. I dont have a problem with the mechanicals of everything with a background in Road Racing and Drag Cars.

Lets hear some suggestions and by all means let me know if you have some parts that may help me get this budget build going. One last thing, I will need to have it finished and on the barge in Cocoa Beach in about a month...

Thanks,

Steven

P.S. More wish list items:

Used Roof Rack
Used front and Rear Bumpers
Snorkel
Recovery Gear
Wheels/AT Tires
Lights

I moved this to chat. You'll get more help there.

Definitely get your self some.good recovery points so if you ever get stuck you can be safely pulled out.

Be careful with the trac bar drop bracket. You must keep the trac bar and drag link parallel otherwise you will get bump steer.

You'll need shocks and you'll need to address brake lines as well as slip yoke eliminater.

Just a quick update. I have learned quite a bit over the last couple of weeks. I have lifted the XJ 4.5". Still have some cosmetics and interior work though.

Thanks, those rear springs were a perfect match for the front springs I got in another deal.

I also had to replace the whole fuel system, from the fuel tank to the injectors to get it running. That ethenol gas that sit the last three years ate everything.

Good looking jeep. I'm not sure what your budget is, but I have a Warn M8000 winch on mine and it's almost bullet proof. If you're going to have water crossing, maybe a good snorkel and waterproofing some of the wires and connections.

Nice job. Click on the pink link in my signature and work on getting the free, easy, and problem saving tips done before trekking to BFE.
