I've researched the limited slip but what is the 4:11 referring to and why is it important....also, would it be a deal breaker for you?

For me, it was difficult to let the D35 be a deal-breaker because 8.25's aren't exactly plentiful around here. I wound up getting one with a D35 and a rebuilt NP242. It has 190k on it, I'm running 29's, and wheel it pretty hard sometimes, and haven't had an issue with either t-case or axle. It's also worth noting that the 4.11'ed D35 in my father's TJ's been spinning 32's for 350k now. Overall, the 8.25 is a more desirable axle, but I wouldn't let it be a real deal breaker because if you plan on modding to the point where it's too weak then you shouldn't have too much of an issue swapping it out anyways. Also, in response to the contrasting post above, any Cherokee with ABS has a D35... even '97 and up.

I'd go with the '99 Classic. It doesn't have that many more miles than the '98, and also looks like it was better taken care.
As for the '98 for $5900, that is massively overpriced.

I wouldn't worry about the gearing so much if the jeep is an auto it is going to have 3.55 or better gearing which is not bad for stock tires. IF you tow in an area with hills the deeper gear would be nice.

No! The np242 is great, don't let these guys turn you off from it. the 242 has the exact same gearing as the 231, same 4hi( aka part time) and the same 4lo but the 242 also has the full time 4x4 which will allow you drive in 4wd on all road conditions, not just slippery and loose surfaces like the 231 forces you to do. Also the 242 is known to be more durable, rated at 1,600 ft/lbs of torque, and was used In military Humvees!
