I posted an introduction for our region about a week ago..
I'm assuredly decided on something from dpg, 3.5" or 4.5"
. I emailed Dirk a few questions which he answered, but I really need to call. I have an RR sye waiting in a box under the bed for whenever the decision is made. I didn't think I would need a dc shaft - they seem more necessary for high level rock crawling/articulation, so simply planning on using a front d.s. from the jy, if need be. Engine: I put in the 4 pin-hole injectors and that's about it. It runs well/cool, never really passing 200F (we'll see when summer gets here with our 100+ days of 100+ degrees
). When comes time, I'm not afraid to cut up the hood. I like the looks in addition to heat venting in traffic. I would also like to see how to make a bench seat in the cargo area.
I appreciate it, everyone.

Welcome!
Mine has been my daily driver for 4 years now. When I got it it was rusted all over, scratched, and the headliner was falling off - just a general piece of crap. Oh and the leaf springs were so bent it was basically riding on the back wheels.
Now, it has a paint job, 4 inch lift, 32 inch Rubicon wheels, side steps, a new headliner, new audio system, new HID headlights, a 9,000 lumen LED light bar sitting inside my home fabricated stock bumper, and many many more upgrades to come.
I have put nearly 60 thousand miles on my jeep in less than 4 years.
I also use it as my tow vehicle for my lawn care business. My jeep is my workhorse and a major part of my livelihood. It is my baby.
I don't give two ****s if it is considered a "Mall Crawler". I have poured my heart and soul into my Jeep Cherokee!
There are days where I will literally come home from work, hook up the trailer, load up the equipment, go cut 4 or 5 yards, come home, unhook the trailer, go to my nearby mud hole with some of my buddies, off road for a while, have a bonfire in the middle of the woods, drink beer, cook hamburgers, hot dogs, sometimes some steaks, and then pass out in the back of my cherokee with the seat laid down, tail gate up, and feet dangling on the hitch.
I commend any person who daily drives their cherokee, relies on their cherokee, and is still willing to have some fun with it off the road and then go home and use it the next day to get to work, pick up the kids, and/or go grocery shopping.
Cudos to you sir embodying the lifestyle that jeep love!

Intro: Clearly by my post count/join date I am new to the forum, so howdy to everyone. I am 26, from Texas, lived in the jungle of Peru for 1.5 years as a missionary but now back in Texas, am now married and we have a 5 m.o. son. My goal here on the forum is to be positive, learn a lot, and hopefully be able to contribute/help others where I can. I chose CF over other forums because it seemed very family-friendly with a generally positive and encouraging attitude from everyone. I love the outdoors/hunting/camping and doing night trail mtn biking but have no experience with trails in a vehicle (other than motorcycle).
Question: Is it offensive to the trail rig community to build up an xj in 'hopes' of growing in trail experience while the majority of the time it will be a dd? I certainly hope to keep the cherokee for many years to come and want to use it to take my wife/son to see more of God's creation in the wilderness, but most of the time it will be my work/grocery store transport.

I'm on several Jeep boards (and a couple of AMC boards, and some general automotive boards - and that's just for stuff that runs on engines!) and they haven't throw my eccentric self out yet! If they keep me, I'm sure they'll keep you.
(Granted, I'm also a 35-year mechanic and 15-year engineer...)
Welcome aboard, learn what you want, teach what you can, and "can't we all just get a bong?"

Most excellent and admirable, gentlemen. After discussing it with Dirk from dpg, my next investment will be the dc shaft. Seriousoffroad has one on sale.
Ps. Should I include vehicle updates on this thread or start another elsewhere?

I sold my jeep YJ, to buy another XJ because we are adding to the fam (3) needed the extra seat, I drive it everywhere take the kids to school and stuff, it's pretty fun to drive, not a dd eats to much gas
