Default New & Questions on sub-50K 89 Lmtd.

Hello and looking for thoughts on an 89 XJ Limited for sale with less than 50K miles, many (?) of those being towed behind a motorhome. 2nd owner sounds like maintenance has been kept up, records going back to window sticker, looks immaculate, leather interior is crack free, original factory jumper cables still in factory bag, jack and covers for driving (fog?) lights intact. Gold basket weave wheels that I'm not real fond of with 80% tread on 3 year old tires, close to stock size. Everything works. Only flaw claimed is some fogging on clearcoat over black on corner of hood and couple spots on roof & top of windshield. Have been looking for a 97-99 until I came across this but they are rare and unavailable in this condition and mileage. Haven't seen it yet, it's 150 miles away but I think I could get it for about $6K. Intent is for my daughter to use it about 20-30 days a year when it snows to get to work, about 100 mile round trip. I've been looking at newer AWD/4WD vehicles, trucks and CR-Vs, Rav4's, etc in the same price range and they are 150K mile crapshoots with limited maintenance records.
  • What are common issues on the 1989's; Renix electrical?
  • I Understand there are two types of transfer cases in this era, advantages to either?
  • Does towing one for thousands of miles affect anything other than tires?
Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated.

Being towed is just like driving it but the engine and trans are not moving,Everything else has the same wear and tear as it was drove. If the mileage is true and never towed id pass on it.The worse thing you can do to a car is let it sit,Once you start to drive it things go wrong.Gaskets dry out when they sit a long time and once you drive it they start to leak.

Mileage is true (Carfax confirmed) and it's immaculate. Service records since new, fluid changes, new muffler/CAT, absolutely mint inside. Everything works. Undercarriage is clean and dry as it's a lifetime interior CA car. Small fluid leak on backside of transfer case, could be due to overfill on change. It didn't sit for excessive periods w/o being exercised. Drives nicely, no squeaks or rattles. I got it, payed too much but I will put less than 5K miles/year on it.
