have found a 98 limited about an hour away. 191k miles looks really good from pics. Guy is asking 4800 said he would take 4200 today. I am thinking of offering 4 cash. Is that good or keep looking?? Interior and body all look really good in pics

What about reliability when traveling hours away? Do you guys trust them.
As long as all maintenance is up to date, you bet.

I wouldn't pay more than 4. Go look at it. Check it for rust. Poke it, prod it. Drive it. Ask questions. Haggle. LOL
I live in east tn and I only see earlier ones in not as good condition go for less. Now you may find one that's already built but ragged out for around this price around here.
Not sure about underside. I may go look if I get a moment today with Mother's Day stuff taking place.
What all should I look for??
Check for rust in the lower quarters and rockers, and underneath the floorpan...make sure the cooling system is in good working order, check all ball joints, bushings, etc., for dry, cracked or missing rubber, see if he'll let you take it to a mechanic of your choosing to get a presale inspection. Also ask what's wrong with it. If the seller is forthcoming, he'll let you take it somewhere and explain any issues it may have. Check for differences in the door gaps, as well as any body panels that may be slightly mismatched in color, this could indicate it was in an accident. Also, don't feel rushed or pressured, drive it and see how it feels. Pay attention to the gauges, make sure oil pressure is ok, temp stays around 210, and that the voltage is solid. Test all the switches, and make sure all the lights light, and the windows roll down, and power locks work. If it all looks good, make an offer of 4K. Hope this helps.
There are a few 2000s with decent prices but how do you check for cracked head issues and what is the fix if I get a 2000 to 2001??
Check the oil and make sure it isn't milky, like chocolate milk. You can also pull the oil filler cap and check between cylinders 3&4 for cracking, but it may or may not be visible. You can also check the cast number on the head, if it's 0331, it's the original head, and prone to issues. Do a compression test. Ask if it's ever overheated. Just because a 00-01 has head issues, that doesn't mean every single one has it. Then again, sometimes the head will crack, even without overheating...it's a crap shoot with the 0331 head. If you find one with the 0331 head, don't be afraid to buy it, and if you do, I'd run it until it had an issue. No absolute need to replace the head just because, unless you really want to.
I ended up getting this 99 that was closer with 169k miles and the Chrysler 8.25 with a lift on 31s. It needs a little work but was 800 cheaper than the limited.
