Default new DIY beadlocks! happy day!

My poor man's bead locks came in today

However with the Xtra 50 lbs Atmos says I won't be able to do anything but mall crawl. So do you guys have any suggestions as to which mall I should go to first?

Whichever mall installs gears.
Rotational weight is the worst kind.

Well I have not installed them yet. So if they are crap I would not want to steer you the wrong way. There are quite a few companies making them priced 250-400$ for a set of 4. I paid 330 shipped for everything. Including hardware and anti conin rings. I went with 3/16 rings. You can upgrade to 1/4 rings. I did not feel it was needed for my application. I went with chassis unlimited brand. They seemed reputable enough. And they are on pirate.

Also I ditched my aluminum wheels. Went with a simple 15" steel wheel. There are companies making the aluminum kits also.

Look nice. Make sure you get good welds and leak test them before you mount them. Here's my cheap ones. Think I paid right at 200 for the set but no anti coning rings, you'll be glad you have them.

Those look good. I am having someone weld them and I may epoxy over it as a precaution. I can weld but I really don't have the time.

These super swampers won't squat at all with 10 lbs of pressure. Hopefully with beadlocks at 5 psi they will start to work.

I run 3-5psi in mine and they do well. I cheat a little when I mount mine and use silicone between the bead and inner flange just to help keep them from leaking. Not sure if they leak or not without it but they don't loose a pound this way.

True but after I busted a chunk out of one on the trail I swore I'd run steel after that, I can beat them back in shape with a hammer, and have many times.

There's a reason why quality beadlocks cost more, and you just explained it better than I could.

I know alloys are the best. No question at all. But poor man's beadlocks are better than no beadlocks. Beside they look cool. LOL

True but even the best alloys will still break, mine were Centerlines not some knockoff. I'd much rather have a little extra weight and be able to repair my wheel on the trail than not be able to make it out. I carry a spare but being able to repair a wheel vs replacing it makes more sense to me. Will 99% of the people out there ever damage a wheel to the point you can't mount a tire, no but I'm that 1%. Just lucky I guess. I've broken pieces of the lip off of stock wheels and managed to make it off the trail but would never drive on pavement that way.
