Default New to the cherokee

Just got my first cherokee or jeep of anykind . Dont really have the funds for a roof mounted tirerack right now and my toolbox takes up most of the back. Would there be a problem to ratchet down the spare right on the roof to the stock luggage rack for a temp fix? Thanks

The roof is not very strong, having a fifty pound wheel and tire combo bouncing around up there will cave the roof in.

I run 31x10.5-15's on steel wheels and I have been carrying my spare on the roof for over two years now and have never had any problems having it strapped down up there. It does "pop" the roof down a little and pops out on its own when I take the wheel down.
I plan on building a rack in the future but I just don't have the room in the back when I'm carrying my toolbox, air compressor and 4-5 chainsaws and assorted other gear, so I put it up top and haven't had a problem yet.
