They shoulda slapped the cherokee name on the Commander at least. Not that crap. I think the commander resembles old school cherokee a good bit, as far as looks goes

Thy already tries with the patriot, it really was the modern XJ as far as looks. But still didnt have anything on the XJ as far as power, capability, or ruggedness.

Why is everyone thinking that this is bad. It is a great car for 90% of the people who like Jeep in STOCK form. Sure...you, me, and most on this site may not like it...but does anyone actually think Jeep should be making new XJs. That is a JOKE.
It is 2013...and there is no reason to expect anything but this. Fuel efficiency, crash safety, interior comfort is the priority. If you need an off-road rig...there are still THOUSANDS of XJs, Wranglers, Yoda's, ZUKs, etc. out there.
I like it. Looks slick and cool, and at least you can consider it 'refined' and take it do some classy places.

what would be badass, is if jeep made the XJ again. same everything. just 2013 model. no its not fuel efficient and safety isn't like a minivan. but still. like imagine if car manufacturers made chevelles and GTOs and novas again, (for a limited time) and exactly how they looked in the past? EXACT like a clone with same motor tranny and axles, all the same. I'm sure there would be thousands of people wanting to get there hands on brand new 0 milage classic cars or even cherokees. not like the modern mustangs and challengers and cherokees, that they all remodeled. just my $.02

this would be amazing for manufacturers, and even for only one year, just made the old school original everything again, they would make SOOOO much money they wouldnt know what to do with it! i am no smart person in this area, but i think it would be a great idea.
every year.
The Commanders look similar, but weight is about 4800 lb, compared to
2800 lb XJ....
