new camshaft
Ive done a ton of suspension work to the jeep and pretty much have it where i want it. Now im curious about some engine mods. Ive never really done much engine work other than new alternator, radiator, accessory stuff really. I also got neon injectors and a 62mm TB so minor performance stuff. I recently got the idea of a new cam and found one on youtube that makes the jeep sound incredible. the performance boost would also be nice too. Anyone have opinions or info on a new cam for the 4.0? not super serious, just curious and looking for info and stuff. thanks

Most all new cams require different valve springs. No new cams for '99+.
Better and easier and still adds performance is adding a set of Harland Sharp 1.7:1 roller rockers. About $400 and just bolt on.

If you're just looking for a cool sound then I guess put a cam in but if you're looking for performance than just regear it. You'll have a much bigger performance gain with gears than a cam.

'99+ use a bolt on cam retaining plate and the earlier years use a pin and spring on the front of the cam to control cam walk. The nose of the 2 cams are different. They don't interchange but you can put an earlier cam with pin and spring into a late engine but not vice verse.
