so, during my disaster rear main seal change, i found a hose with a hole rubbed in to it. it is visible from under the jeep. driver side, above the front axle. smaller black hose. it was in a braided white holder of some sort. so, at the time, i just taped it up and taped it out of the way, but really need to fix it if this is something important. i assume it fell down and was hitting the axle and was getting rubbed.

If the description is not good enough, I'll try to take a picture of it tomorrow night.

Sounds like the differential breather hose.

x2. It's the breather hose.

Yup differential vent. It lets the fumes from the oils escape when they got hot, and it's placed up high so that water doesn't get into your axles and wash them.

It's important if you want your axles to last, but it's not a critical part that's gonna make your Jeep blow up.

Thanks guys. I thought it may be that from poking around, but the braided part threw me off. I have it at least covered and out of the way for now. That's going to take a backseat to getting the a/c working. Looks like I may have a bad hose or cracked cap on it too. Never ends

2000 and up had braided sleeve on it because of the extra heat coming from pre cats on the exhaust manifold
