This guy clearly dropped some coin building this thing up. However, $6K is serious money for an XJ. Especially for somebody new to this, I wouldn't recommend buying something this heavily modified. Buy a stock XJ and build it up exactly how you want it. Or if you want to jump in with something beefy, buy a rig a bit milder, no more than a 3" lift. Drive it, wheel it, then decide if you feel it needs to go higher.
I would pass on it fully its mall crawler,It has a lift but he don't list a brand and i don't see any long arms under it like it should have over 4.5 inch lift.I see no armor at all and cheapo tube steps and homemade roof rack.Find a stock virgin xj rust free and build it how you want.If you buy something built your buying their problems and end up spending more fixing and doing things over.

Looks like the guy spent shop money to build that jeep and im sure he has way more in it than what he's asking but it's not worth what he's asking. He says everything was "done right" I bet if you ask him what gears he's got on that jeep or the specs on the lift he won't even know. Like others have said build your own rig. If your considering dropping $6k on an old renix buddy you can buy a newer better xj and build it even better than that for the same money.

If this is your first rig, I would encourage you to pass on it. As someone else said, buy a stock unit (or close to it) and build it up. It may not be as "cool" as you'd like, but the money could be better spent in the long run.

Hate to pile on but that's an 89 and not one thing mentioned about who's lift it is or what other name brand parts it has if any other than a cheaper set of flares and high end "FLOOR MATS" lol.
All this amounts to is a "Mall Crawler" all show no go!

The lift and shocks are rubicon express, and the gears are 3.73. Being a highschool student I'm not looking for a complete off road rig as most of my use from it would be to and from school/ work but occasionally when I have time.

Looks like a good jeep and it has a good lift for sure. Still think $6k is too much but you sound dead set on buying it that's your choice more power to ya. You asked for advice on the cherokee forum and most guys here will recommend building a rig for sure. If you have $6k cash it's not a horrible idea but if your financing I'd think twice. You will have a payment for the jeep and an 89 will only be good to you for so long before things start asking for attention.

I'm not sure it matters if it's a mall crawler or not. Just being a part of CherokeeForum doesn't necessarily mean you're going to MOAB every weekend.
But at that price, you're buying an older body style Jeep with older tech in it and a bunch of custom mods that you're not going to like forever because eventually you're gonna want to put your own blood, sweat, and tears into it.
So I agree that you should get your own stocker and build it up at your own pace. That's what I did/am doing. You never know what shortcuts the previous owner took. You could end up buying that thing and find something rigged up to where you'd never be able to run what you want to.

As has been said, pick up a less "pimped-out" one and build it up yourself.
The 3.73 gears will make it slower then hell with 35s and hard on gas it really needs 4.56 or 4.88 for 35s.Like said just pass on it your asking for problems if you spend that much on something not even close to worth it.You could spend 2 grand on a nice virgin xj and have 4 grand to spend on it and have a better jeep in the long run.
My 2 cents...I've got $6,000 in mine (see avatar) Bone stock build..No death wobble, 70+ cruise speed, I can power on and off ramps, and I off road, rock crawl ( bigger diff's next), and it is my daily driver..Buck for Buck you'll get more with a properly built one then buying someone else's "money pit" With all my Labor (and searching for good Mod. parts & deals) I figure it would run around $15,000+ to pay someone to duplicate it...when you "honestly" add up the costs I don't think it's a good deal especially when it will take another $6,000 to make it a reliable mid-range 4x4..
