I'ld keep the C8.25. The 29 spline C8.25 is close in strength to a Dana 44 and stronger than a Dana 35. If you wanted to upgrade try and find a Dana 44 out of an earlier XJ since it will bolt in, otherwise look into a Ford 8.8.

Not many options available with the C8.25 I'm having a detroit put into mine right now, but I think the only other one is an ARB. I would have gone the ARB but its a lot farther out of my price range of what I wanted to spend.

Well, my whole 4.11 gear change, chromoly rear axle shafts, detroit rear, spartan for the front is a little more than I wanted to spend, but costs a lot less than the gears, two ARBs and air pump like I would have preferred.

D44 and 29 spline are pretty comparable, the only benefit I see too changing an 8.25 for a d44 is semi float axles.(bolt in, no c-clips) after having to remove my locker 4-5 times to pull axles, it would almost be worth it to me.
But much easier to throw a locker in what you have and be done. I use an Aussie in mine and its great.
If you want an actual upgrade than go 8.8, stronger than both

Absolutely the way to go with your existing axle. With the Dana 35 you'd be going backwards in strength. The Spartan locker is great for the Dana 30 which is what I have. It comes with the new cross pin and it doesn't require reuse of the original shims. I have an Aussie in my 8.25 and the Spartan was easier to set up. Bigger Springs too. The Spartan is a better deal since the other lockers don't include the cross pin which is around $25 by itself and most of the time it's free shipping.
