I know the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) can affect shifting, but i'm not sure on the dieseling. It might. I would either check or replace the TPS. If you have a buddy with one, you could try that one just to check.

I stopped at a shop and they said that it seems like it could be my Air Flow Intake so I'm going to get that checked out. does yours pass smog?
