Default Need help

so i have a 95 jeep cherokee sport straight 6 .. it was given to me from a friend for free and its been my project car atm. im on the last part of getting it all back together and i just cant seem to figure out whats going on .. i have a model 231J transfer case with matching spline counts and it just wont seem to go in all the way. all i need is like a half an inch if that till the plates meet but w/e i try to do it just dont go all the way in .. any ideas ?

Pretty sure auto and manual tcases are different.

One spline that is different in size than all the others.

i figured out my problem .. i thought the case i had was a NP 231 which is a cherokee case but i had a 231 J which is a wrangler case thanks for the help though guys

Um...they are both NP231Js.

The "J" means Jeep...
