Need an expert on Waggy's
I ran across a deal on a matching set of complete running gears out from under a Waggy.. The guys says its an '81 model, its a driver side drop, non-disco D44 front and AMC 20 rear.. $175 for both.. The front is supposidly a 60.5" wms to wms.. Does this sound right? Also i thought the '85 to '91 were the best to get so should i pass this deal up or get 'em? I want the D44 front to swap out the turdy thirty... Also, is there any thing the AMC 20 would be worth using for? Thanks

i personally thought that 81 was pass drop......and 60.5 wms sounds right. my last ford hp44 was 63.5 wms and i know waggys are narrower
EDIT-after searching a bit, it looks like waggy front d44's were drivers drop from 1980 up.
BTW thats a good price for them if they are in good shape. i pay $100-130 each at the jy here in colorado and i have to pull em.
im by no means an expert on waggy d44's

Yea that was me over on pirate. Ive done some searching around so do believe im gonna go get 'em. If i dont use em under my XJ ill for sure use em under my Nissan when i solid axle swap it. Seems that front axle is what everyone uses for SAS.. I noticed the CJ 20 is junk, but people say the FSJ 20 is worth using/heavier duty so ill end up using both. All the charts with diffrent widths, etc, etc, etc kinda had me confused.

deal
WMS measurement sounds right. The AMC20 out of those is actually not too far off a D44 upgrade. It often gets a bad rap because of the massively inferior AMC20 that was in CJ's.
I have a waggy D44 up front, and it is a decent swap. The width is darn near perfect. My only issue that continues to plague me is the front driveshaft angle being steep due to the low pinion. I did not turn the C's in the swap - I think if you turn the C's to point it at the T-case for a CV joint, this will be less of an issue for you .
That a good price - I'd do it.

I did buy the waggys... But just sold the Cherokee a few hours ago... Ive got the AMC 20 for sale though, it is the HD Wagoneer 20 so it has the 1 piece axles.. Reason im selling it is, i need atleast 5.13s, where a AMC 20 the lowest you can get for them is 4.88s... And all i can say is, that waggy d44 front is one heavy sum***** lol.
