Need advice with painting my jeep.
Hey there this is my first post on CF. I was thinking about doing a cheap repaint on my jeep to up the value a little bit for re-sell later. So the guy i bought it from had painted the hood primer grey and left it, so i was wondering do you think i should just repaint ONLY the hood, or take on the whole car? The paint is really sun bleached, especially on the roof. You can kind of see it in the picture on the front.

I my self would do the whole car. Including fixing the dings (like the ones in the drivers door) And straighting out the front bumper. It's twisted up in the front driver's corner. JMO!

you'll never get the hood to be the exact same color as the rest of the jeep.
and you're not going to increase resale value with spray paint or a bad DIY job (unless you have the facilities to do a real and proper job on it)
if you're gonna sell it just let the next owner paint it the color they like. ask $400 more than what you really want for it then say "oh I guess I can knock off $400 so you can have some money toward a paint job."

I agree that you'll never get the hood to match the rest, so you may as well paint the whole thing.
Also, I'm diggin' the cheap perforated angle iron roof rack thing you have going there.

If you diy the painting will be worth it. It's easier to sell a car for more money when it is all one color.
You called it a car and that was kind of my point, chances are whoever buys the xj is gonna be buying it because the want an xj, not because the only vehicle they can afford is a 20 y/o souped up station wagon. If your trying to by a car on the cheap, xj isnt really the way to go.

Thanks everybody, I ended up taking off the hood sanding it down and repainting it blue, not EXACTLY the same color but its better then looking at the ugly grey. Well worth the $25 bucks for sandpaper and paint. As you see it in the pics is how I bought it. Decided Im not going to dump a bunch of money into this jeep and wait until I get the inline 6
Ill try and get a pic up of it repainted.
