Default Mystery button

Hey guys!

I'm just wondering, if anyone knows what the mysterious black button on the steering column, near the ignition switch is for?

I'm driving a 1998 model.

You mean I shouldn't be able to just pull the key out at any time?

Activates shock collar on visiting inlaws, should be pushed as often as possible, till they go home. lolololol
Doh!, sister in law reading over my shoulder.
Actually you are probably describing the 4 way flasher activation.
I'll need to activate that as a distress call when she tells my wife.

It's a small push-button, I don't think it has anything to do with the hazard lights.
It looks stock, so I doubt it was installed by the previous owner.
It's on the steering column, on the same side as the ignition switch.

Anything labelled there on dash controls schematic in owners manual?

My owners manual is in Italian and the button doesn't seem to do anything, although I can feel it clicking.

I am guessing that you have a manual transmission as that is the key release switch for the ignition. I have one on my 00.

Yep, it's a manual.
Since it seems my key release is broken anyway, I can hook it up to my ejector seat instead
