My roof rack build
I decided to save some money and build my own roof rack. I surf fish a lot so I made my rack accordingly to accommodate my rod case on one side, and space on the other side to carry my hi lift jack, and store my EZ up shelter or kayak. I started off with the ideas from this post https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f58/ho...of-rack-21684/ then I went from there.
I went to my local welding shop and got some expandable metal to use for flooring, and used the leftover EMT conduit to connect the top and bottom rails. For the support I cut the conduit at 8" and flattened 1" on either end. Each upright has two self tapping screws top and bottom.
Next, I went to the automotive department store, picked up some cans of self etching primer and a few cans of the spray on bed liner in the can(a bunch of cans) and sprayed away. Right now I am working on adding lights, four on the front, two spots in the center and two fogs on the outside ; on the back, two fog lights. All of the light covers will be painted OD green with those famous words "FRONT TOWARDS ENEMY". When I am not fishing, I plan on using some 6" PVC pipe painted black up there for extra dry storage.
Here are the current pictures of the build and mock up with the rod case
